Junior Ranger Program: Celebrate Literacy Month

Let’s head outside and discover the wonders of Lovers Key State Park!  Join a park ranger for a reading of Verdi by Janell Cannon, a wonderful story to celebrate literacy month about a little yellow python snake that doesn’t want to grow big and green like the others.  The story will be followed by a fun outdoor activity to discover more about snakes, and kids will leave the park with an environmentally friendly craft created with a park ranger. After the program, participants can begin their journey to become a Florida State Park Junior Ranger through fun self-led activities. This program is appropriate for children ages 4-12. International Observe the Moon Night

The International Observe the Moon Night 2014 will be held at the Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium at 7 p.m.  Admission is free, donations to the planetarium accepted.  Two astronomy shows featuring the moon will run during the evening:  'Moon Dreams' and 'Twenty Four Hours to the Moon'. There will also be telescope observing of the moon outside the planetarium provided by members of the Southwest Florida Astronomical Society.
